Synopsis
WHAT IS ERICKSON HYPNOSIS
Doctor Milton ERICKSON, an American psychiatrist who died in 1981, has given a new impulse to hypnosis by putting forward the New Hypnosis. It is a therapy providing quick results. In brief, the perception of some events or phenomenons are perceived negatively by our mental. Erickson says that if we are able to introduce oneself the negative image/feeling of an event, we are also able to modify that perception.
The patient has in himself the solutions to his phobia, fear or lack of confidence. The therapist is a simple assistant who will dialogue with his unconsciousness where the keys are stored. To reach the patient’s objective, he will use various techniques to improve changes in his mind through a very secured manner. The patient is always aware of the progress of the session.
THE BASIC SUPPPORTS OF THE NEW HYPNOSIS
The basic supports could be summarized the following way:
- The subconscious : the therapist is to going to establish a link between himself and the subconscious of the patient. The instrument to reach this goal is the language. The words, utilized by the therapist, are understandable by anybody and they are in the same time as a cradle son. The patient will see gradually a slight modification of his consciousness, leaving the ground to his unconsciousness. He will use also the materials brought by the patient. These materials have been studied and are well-known under the name of N.L.P
- The N.L.P (neuro-linguistic-programming): Two American searchers, John Grinder and Richard Bandler, have discovered that the individuals live with establish psychological mechanisms. Thus the internal and external behaviour reveal this mechanism, the way they perceived the word. In other words, there is the real world, and there is the same world rebuilt by the patient. The manner to build his one world is easily understandable in looking to his attitude, his gestures, his words: does he utilize omissions, distortions, generalisations does his main perception coming from the his eyes, his ear, or his feeling.
With this material, the therapist will build up a kind of model, and he will use the same attitude, gesture and words to be in phase with patient and to have the same strategy as his patient to reverse the perception he has had until now.
THE REASONS OF PSYCHOLOGICAL TROUBLES
When an external event occurs such as:
- marriage, divorce, separation,
- aggressive boss, pollution, excessive responsibilities, numerous mails,
- redundancy, death, stress, suicide, abortion,
or an internal event occurs, such as:
- sickness, tobacco, alcohol, overweight,
- chirurgical operation, cancer, pregnancy,
- painful souvenir, fears of animals, examinations, professional meetings
the mental may feel unhappy with bad sensations, bad emotions. Our nervous system forwards this message to the body. The hormonal system react immediately and send adrenalin, noradrenalin to help to fight against the aggressions. But gradually, the effect of these hormones is reduced, becoming more and more feeble. So the consequence of the original event and its emotional impact is growing up to a stage where it becomes difficult to bear.
Numerous illnesses may occur in your body ( heart, cancer cellules, respiration, asthma, pains everywhere, etc)
or in your mind ( phobia, fears, difficulties to speak, to live, to have an interest to anything, etc)
The Erickson Hypnosis may alleviate all these difficulties.

A SESSION OF ERICKSON HYPNOSIS
There is three phases in a session of hypnosis :
- the dialogue : In this first stage, the client has to acquire confidence in the therapist and perceive the interest to follow a programme to alleviate his problem. The therapist himself has to understand the real personality of his client and his functioning ( method PNL)
- the induction : As we said earlier, the induction is dedicated to modify the consciousness in order to speak to the unconsciousness. There are different techniques, but I have to precise that , even with a slight induction, the hypnosis is efficient; contrarily, a deep induction is not efficient.
- application of a technique : There are plenty of techniques to reach the change of perception of live; you will understand that if someone is afraid of the snakes, or if he is afraid of death because, a lot of people in his family died from cancer, the therapist will not utilize the same technique. What is important, is not to know the cause of the symptoms, but to solve the problems.
